Join Cambridge Art Galleries and Bridge Centre for Architecture + Design for the opening reception of Common Waters.
The event will begin at Idea Exchange Design at Riverside Gallery at 7:00PM with Christine Lefebvre - Karonhya Katste leading an opening ceremony which will include a smudge, land acknowledgement with a circle to follow. At 8:00 PM, the event will continue at BRIDGE Centre for Architecture + Design (37 Main Street, Cambridge) until 10:00PM
Christine Lefebvre (Karonhya Katste) is a mixed blooded Mohawk presently residing in Kitchener-Waterloo, whose family resides in Kahnawake and Akwesasne First Nations. Over the last 25 years, Christine has shared experiential learning through transformative knowledge methodologies and exchanges. Christine teaches reciprocal practices within Indigenous knowledge systems across urban and rural settings as a facilitator and community member. Christine has shared this way of being while engaging with a diverse range of participants. Christine utilizes Indigenous knowledge, teaching, and curriculum development to apply it to diverse and inclusive community engagement methods. Christine holds knowledge of land-based and holistic curriculum theory and development of both adult and child learners. Christine has done extensive public speaking, teaching, workshops, publications, and has led community-driven initiatives and engagements. She is a ceremonial facilitator, counselor, and Aboriginal coordinator who assists with community needs-driven assignments and projects. Christine applies experiential knowledge practices to assist and enable Indigenous youth leadership as well as empowerment through mentoring, fostering relationships, guidance, creative inquiry, and healthy role modelling. Christine is an experiential teacher, auntie, grandmother, and helper who invites all people to take action in being stewards of the earth.
